Motor end plate is a functional structure adjacent to the axon terminals of motor neurons and skeletal muscle cells. When the axons of motor neurons reach the innervated skeletal muscle, they lose myelin sheath, and their axons branch repeatedly. Each branch forms grape like expansion and contacts with a skeletal muscle fiber to form a chemical synaptic connection. The connection is oval plate-shaped expansion, which is called motor endplate, also known as divine meridian muscle connection. The axon terminals in front of the synapse will release acetylcholine neurotransmitter, causing skeletal muscle contraction. From Wikipedia.
